We all know big bold sultry lashes have been trending more than ever lately. No wonder we keep seeing hundreds of new mascaras advertised all over the place. They all promise to transform our lashes into ones that would make any daddy long-leg spider jealous.

Unfortunately, our lashes never look like the pictures we see on the magazine covers. This is where the Lash Lift (eyelash perming) may come in handy.

Lash Lift is a fairly new technique in which a perming-type solution is used to curl and enhance your natural lashes.

Naughty Lashes

Regardless of the risks, my daughter, Dara was willing to chance it. She was sick of fooling around with her eyelash curler every morning.

We even tried using the hairdryer to heat the curler.

Nothing was working, so we scheduled an appointment. It was time to find out if Lash Lift would be worth it.

Pre-Lash Lift

The big day had finally arrived! As we drove up, Dara jumped out and practically skipped into the building.

The Appointment

We met the technician and followed her down a hallway into a tiny room. This is weird I thought. I expected a larger room with soft lighting, candles, and spa music playing on a speaker somewhere.

The technician laid out her utensils and introduced herself. I looked over at Dara as she got cozy and slumped back into the chair.

Within an hour the technician was finally finished. She grabbed a mirror and handed it to Dara. I hopped out of my chair and took a closer look.

I didn’t see a bit of change. No curl, no lift, Nothing!

Here’s the odd part. The technician didn’t seem a bit concerned. Wait…what? All I could think of was how disappointed Dara would be.

We left the salon in silence. It was a wet cloudy day outside, but now the clouds seemed darker than ever.

Dara and I looked at each other and we both knew. This was a big fail! All that money for what? Dara’s lashes looked the same as they had an hour ago.

It’s never easy to call and complain, it feels so awkward. However, it was our only choice.

Thankfully, I did speak with the manager who finally apologized for Dara’s bad experience. The good thing is, we had another shot, free of cost and with a more experienced technician.

2nd Appointment

One week later, Dara and I were back in the same salon. We found ourselves sitting in the matchbox-sized room again. This time a new face greeted us. She seemed friendly and more welcoming.

Get this… I was just about to breathe a sigh of relief until the girl mentioned she would be experimenting with a new Lash Lift kit.

This is not the time to experiment! Was this going to be another failed attempt?

I managed to keep my mouth shut and give it one last chance. As the girl began working, I noticed she was confident in her skills, (regardless of the new kit she was using for the first time.)

Less than an hour later, Dara’s lashes were lifted and we were headed home.

Post-2nd Lash Lift

Hallelujah! It finally worked. The Lash Lift was worth it! Dara’s lashes looked amazing! She was thrilled, and I was relieved. Now, I wondered how long the results would last?

Within 5 weeks the curl had almost vanished. By week 8 she was ready for a new Lash Lift.

However, we never returned to the original salon.

Thankfully, my sister finally became trained in the Lash Lift technique! This made us happy, no more guesswork and no more wasted time.
